Blondies are fabulous things, IMHO. This year, anticipating bunches of Trick-or-Treaters, I bought a large bag of the fun-sized Milky Ways. No Trick-or-Treaters. Zero. Zip.
Rather than consuming the entire bag of candy bars myself (and, yes, it was a consideration), I decided to use them up in these incredible cookie-bars.
I’ve added chocolate chips to the recipe – if you have enough willpower to make sure you don’t munch out on the candy before baking, you can omit them.
2 cups light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (none if you’re using salted butter)
2 cups all purpose flour
15 Fun Size Milky Way Candy Bars, chopped
And (because I’d already, um, eaten a few of the Milky Way Bars) 1 cup chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13” pan with foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.
Cream brown sugar and butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add eggs and vanilla and beat until combined. Add baking powder, salt, and flour and mix.
Stir in chopped Milky Way bars and chocolate chips.
Press into prepared pan. (My tip – the dough is really sticky, so either rub some butter on your hands or moisten them with water before this step – you’ll thank me).
Bake for about 25 minutes. (They’re going to look undercooked – don’t worry, they’ll firm up when they cool). Cool completely before slicing into squares.
Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
